What good can come from tragedy?

Over the last several years multiple people I know have experienced tragedy or loss. Through all of this going on, I found myself easily depressed and discouraged. Why is there so much of this going on in this season of my life? I feel weighed down by not only the burdens of my life, but I feel myself carrying the burdens of many other people. I know for a fact that when I am in this state of being weighed down, I am unable to be the man, husband, and father I am supposed to be. I know those who have experienced these things personally have to be feeling the same, and likely to a higher degree. As I looked to God to understand it all, He spoke a few things to me that have helped immensely!

1. God wants you to turn to Him and place ALL of your burdens on Him.

MAT 11:28-30 HCSB says,“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

When you are feeling weighed down by life, God wants you to put all of your burdens on His shoulders. I also find it interesting that in this verse He says we are to learn from Him through this process. We give away our burdens, so we can have more time to learn to be gentle and humble. We are useless when we are weighed down, let go and we are able to be more Christlike!

2. God CAN and WILL use EVERYTHING in your life for your good.

ROM 8:28 HCSB says,We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.

What we may see here as a tragedy, a loss, a suffering, or a burden, God sees as an opportunity. He can use these occurrences as a chance to change a heart, restore a relationship, right a wrong, and bring glory to Himself. Even if we don’t see it right away, if we stay obedient in these times, the blessings will follow.

Why does God want to use these types of things? Well, since we don’t live in a perfect world, imperfect things will happen all the time. These types of things make people really think and reflect…what more of a perfect time for God to work in people’s hearts. People are usually looking for some kind of an answer, a “why,” however, we are seldom willing to wait for the answer.

2PE 3:9 HCSB Says,”The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.”

Some people see Gods patience with us and waiting on His timing as God purposely delaying His promise. Some “understand” this delay incorrectly. Gods timing is perfect and He is patient with us. Any perceived delay in Gods promise is just that…us perceiving that it is being delayed. God provides on Gods perfect timing. It is never delayed!!

Give God whatever it is that is weighing you down…someone dying young, a bad diagnosis, an accident, a job loss, a broken relationship…God will lighten your load and walk along side of you through it.

Know that God will use what you are going thru for His Glory. Maybe you can help someone else through the same situation, maybe you can raise awareness to someone or something, maybe your story inspires others to believe in the greatness of God.

Blessing will come out of this when God deems it time. Be aware, you don’t want to miss it!
