Would you like to discover the knowledge of God? To know what God knows? To understand what He wants you to know. To figure out what it means to “fear” Him (not be scared, but to have awe, respect, and reverence towards)? Evidently Proverbs 2 is the place for you to start.
My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, listening closely to wisdom and directing your heart to understanding; furthermore, if you call out to insight and lift your voice to understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it like hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of God.
The verse begins with an “if.” This means there is a choice to be made. You get to pick if you would like to reap the benefits of wisdom or not.
What do we need to do?
Accept- You don’t know it all. Admit it. Once you are aware you don’t know it all you can be willing to learn.
Store up- Remember it. Write it down, look it over regularly, apply it to everyday situations.
Listen closely- Pay attention!
Direct your heart- Wisdom only matters when applied to your life. Why bother learning if your heart isn’t into it?
Call out/lift your voice- Ask for more from those you feel are wiser than you, talk about it with others, pray about it! Ask God for wisdom as Solomon did.
Seek it/search- This is no passive process, it’s continually active. Wisdom will not find you, you must find it.
