A few weeks ago I was installing a new water softener. When I turned the water on, a small leak started in one of the pipes. I tightened and tightened and it still had a small leak. I know almost nothing about plumbing and couldnt figure out the leak. As a man, I struggle with asking for help. It hurts my pride to admit that I don’t know it all. My pride has gotten in the way several times in my life and led to bad decisions. In this situation I was ready to douse the entire piping in silicone sealant and call it a day.
Good thing my wife knows me well and suggested I ask a few people for help. Grudgingly I agreed and asked several poeple who know more about plumbing than me and whose advice I trust. I ended up with a very simple solution of adding more plumbing tape to the pipe threads. Swallowing my pride and asking for some advice saved me from making a big mistake.
A great verse in proverbs points this out.
Without guidance, people fall, but with many counselors there is deliverance.
Proverbs 11:14 HCSB
When we try to do things relying only on our own knowledge and experience, we set ourselves up for failure. The more wise advice we get from others, the better the outcome. Now, dont get your advice on Facebook or from people who continually make bad decisions. Look to those who are knowledgeable about the area you need advice and to those who have a good track record on decison making.
