What men like in men

There are many traits common in men that I look up to. One of the biggest is that their actions match their words…they do what they say.  I admire integrity, doing the right thing no matter what. Right is right and wrong is wrong. Even when the pressure is on, they make right choice. These are some things my dad modeled well for us, the things he believed in he stood up for. I admire that. I will always remember him putting his job on the line to help a wrongly treated coworker. He stood up and did the right thing.

An article written in 1902 shares some traits that men like in other men. I think most would still agree with today.

“Men like in men these traits: the honor that ennobles; the justice that insures the right; the reasonableness that mellows and makes plain; the courage that proclaims virility; the generous instinct that disdains all meanness; the modesty that makes no boast; the dignity that wins respect; the fineness and the tenderness that know and feel.”

The Bible shares a few virtues that men should look up to in other men.

Proverbs 19:1 NLT-Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and a fool.

Proverbs 11:2 NLT-Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

Proverbs 14:33 NLT-Wisdom is enshrined in an understanding heart; wisdom is not found among fools.

These are some qualities that as men, we should be modeling all the time. These qualities should be present in the men we look up to.

What qualities to people see in how you live your life? What qualities do you look up to in the men around you?

I hope someday my kids are able to look at my life and describe it with some of those qualities listed above.

Please share your thoughts or other “manly” qualities.
